All You Can Do Is Laugh…

My four youngest are all girls, Beth (7), Esther (5), Miriam (4), and Sarah (2).
We had this little exchange this morning:

Miriam: Mom, can you PLEASE cut my bangs?
Mom: Remember you wanted to grow them out, right?
Miriam: Just like yours?
Mom: That’s right!  We’re going to just pin them out of the way, just like Esther has been smoothing hers to one side with water.  I’ve been thinking it looks so pretty when you all have been fixing your hair like that. (encouraging grin)
Esther: (eyes bright) Yeah!  We use our toothbrushes to do that!
Miriam and Beth: (Nodding eagerly)

At this point, I took a breath to say something, and nothing would come out!  I put my hand over my face, trying to hide my amusement and mild dismay.  I waited, looking at the lines on my palm, trying not to smile TOO much.  I’m learning that it’s much better to wait and say nothing than blurt out my first reaction.  After a short silence, one of the girls thought of a way to cheer me up.

Beth: (chuckling) Oh, Mom!  Don’t worry!  We only use our toothbrushes when they’re CLEAN.  NOT with TOOTHPASTE on them!

The story doesn’t end yet – read the update!  For more laughs, see our Not Me Mondays!
