If you have to wash a LOT of lettuce… regular size salad spinners just won’t do the trick. I had a small one and gave it away, since it was too small for the amount of lettuce my family eats. I plan to check out a restaurant supply store, but in the meantime…
Try using the mesh bag from a bag of oranges (this would be better for a smaller amount of lettuce),
or from a 50 lb. sack of onions! This is nice because of the drawstring “handle”.
Wash the lettuce (you can cut it first, then spin it) and place in the bag. Put a towel under the bag to catch drips on your way outside. Remove the towel and spin it around – either over your head like a helicopter, or around and around like a crazy cartoon baseball windup. My children now BEG me to let them spin the lettuce.

Great idea. For some reason, I thought you were going to say “take it outside and hang it on the clothesline!”
This is great… just great! I can see my little man eagerly begging for that job. By the way, is that bouganvilla in your header! I grew up with that just covering our walls and fences.

Amy Ellen: Yes – that is bougainvilla – we’re trying to get a hedge of it to grow up in front of our girls’ windows, then use it as a “secret garden” tea time getaway…
LOL
I thought you were going to tell us about a great sale somewhere.
That’s a clever way to get your kids to help prepare dinner though.
